- An extremely easy to use text editor that allows a complete
novice to create a text page for a Website without having to
know anything about HTML. This is a great product that will
help you create content and work collaboratively with your WEB Design company.

AVG Anti-Virus
- Free. Not quite as good as the McAfee and Norton antivirus
packages, but it's free! One difference is that AVG's virus
definition files are only updated on a monthly basis. You can
subscribe to the free virus alert service by supplying your
email address.

ZoneAlarm
- Free. One of the best rated firewall products available. Note
that this is substantially better than Windows XP's built in
firewall, which does not alert you to outgoing connections from
spyware or trojans. There are three versions on this link. Download
the free version.

Adobe Acrobat Reader
- Free. Acrobat PDF files are compact files that have all the
information necessary to present and print documents in their
original fonts and layout, unencumbered by the layout limitations
of HTML files. PDF files are an ideal choice for use on the
Internet as they are compact, independent of the software used
to layout the original, and can be read, presented to screen
and printed by Adobe Acrobat Reader software running on Windows,
Mac or UNIX platforms.

- Free. The most widely used browser by far.

McAfee antivirus
- $$$. Possibly the best antivirus package, but it's chargeable.
This link leads to McAfee's own shop, but you can often find
a cheaper promotional version if you search for one. The associated
firewall is also chargeable, but is not thought to be as good
as the free Zonealarm.

Norton antivirus
- $$$. Many users prefer this to McAfee's antivirus. Powerful,
but chargeable. Use this link to download a trial version.

WinZip
- Shareware. WinZip makes it easy for Windows and Windows 95
users to work with file archives. WinZip features an intuitive
point-and-click drag-and-drop interface for viewing, running,
extracting, adding, deleting, and testing files in archives
with a standard Windows interface. WinZip can handle ZIP, TAR,
gzip, and Unix compress format files by itself. External programs
are required for the less frequently used ARJ, ARC, and LZH
formats.

WinRAR
- Shareware. Although not as popular as Winzip, this Windows
archive manager will handle the files that Winzip won't, and
also creates and reads RAR files, which are even more compressed
files than ZIP.

Stuffit Expander
- Free. Expands ZIP or other compressed files for the Mac. There
is a chargeable version of Stuffit which enables you to compress
files and perform other file archive management functions.

Ad-aware
- Free. Ad-aware is a spyware removal utility that scans your
memory, registry and hard drives for components of known Spyware/Adware
parasites, Malware, Browser hijackers, Scumware and Foistware,
and allows you remove them efficiently and safely. These software
robots run secretly, track your Website accesses and transmit
the data and your email address via your internet connection.
They are usually hidden within certain shareware or freeware
programs, but we have also seen them in bargain software by
'E-games'. The information is sold to large advertising and
marketing organisations who use it to place targeted banner
ads or send unsolicited commercial email (SPAM). Ad-aware is
highly regarded by privacy campaigners in the computer user
community. You may be surprised by what it finds on your PC.

Steganos Security Suite
- $$$. Worried about data security in an open office? The Steganos
Security Suite is a complete, easy to use security package.
It can encrypt your data, which can be concealed in a data "Safe".
This is a secure hard drive, which disappears at the click of
a button. Thanks to on-the-fly-encryption, 1 GB data is encrypted
in less than a second. The suite also includes: Internet Trace
Destructor, file shredder, e-mail encryption, password manager
and computer locking.

Atomic Clock
- Free. This program will reference an atomic clock server to
get the current time with the greatest accuracy available and
update your PC's information. It can even be set to automatically
check the time once a day to keep your PC's time accurate forever.
